Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director most well-known for her sex appeal, edginess, and humanitarian work. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was a part she won for the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her growing up in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years. She later enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. In addition to appearing in theatre productions, she was a model and featured in music videos.Jolie's first big film role was in Hackers (1995) in the filming process, she met her first husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996; divorced 1999). It was not well-received, and neither were other films. However, in 1997, Jolie gained a lot of notice for her performance as the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor in the film George Wallace, and she was later awarded a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. She played the role of a supermodel who struggles with addiction to drugs in the HBO movie Gia in 1999. This performance earned her numerous accolades, including the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. She was a co-star with John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999. In the following year, she married Thornton (divorced in 2003). Jolie played the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then, she took on the British accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing to take on the roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. Jolie played Alexander's mom in Oliver Stone's Alexander in 2004 and she also appeared alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow The World of Tomorrow, a thriller featuring sci-fi in 1930s New York City. Both films were box-office failures However, Jolie had a smash with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) the film in which she portrayed an assassin posing as an ordinary housewife. While working on the film, she came across Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
